Home Away From Home Responding to Medical Emergencies & Serious Injuries Written Policy

I will do the following if a child is seriously ill or becomes injured and requires attention from a health care provider or 911:

If a child has a life-threatening injury, or an injury that could result in a child losing vision, hearing, or a limb, I will call emergency personnel (911) immediately, before attempting to contact the parent. After emergency personnel have been called, I will then contact the parent or the child’s emergency contact person if the parent cannot be reached.

For injuries that may be serious, but are not life-threatening and would not result in a child losing vision, hearing, or a limb, I will contact the child’s parent immediately. Next I will have my emergency substitute, August Moulton, stay at my home to tend the other children. As soon as possible I will contact the parents of the other children in my care to let them know the situation and advise that the emergency substitute is with their children. It will be their decision if they would like to pick up their children early or pick them up at the scheduled time.

Emergency Substitute: Please contact me or see the written policy given to you for this information.
