Home Away From Home Procedures for Fire, Earthquake, Flood, Power failure, & Water Failure Policy

I will do the following if there is a fire in my home:

Fire drills will be scheduled and carried out every 3 months so in the case of a fire the children and I will be able to evacuate quickly and calmly. Once all the children are out safely I will contact the local fire department firstly and the parents of all the children secondly.
I will do the following if there is an earthquake:

1. Get all the children to a safe place such as under a table or bench and have them hold on to one of the legs.
2. If there is no table or desk close to us we will sit against a wall away from things that might fall on anyone and away from windows, bookcases or tall, heavy furniture.
3. We will wait in our safety spot until the shaking stops and then I will check to see if anyone is hurt. We will then move carefully and look out for fallen things.
4. As soon as possible I will contact the parents or emergency contacts of all the children.
I will also be a disaster drill once a year so we can be more prepared for this type of situation.

I will do the following if there is a flood at my home:

In the case of a flood I will immediately take the children to higher ground. I will then contact the parents or the emergency contact and let them know where we are so they may pick up their children as soon as possible.

I will do the following if there is a power failure at my home:

If the power goes out at my home (before children come to my home) and doesn’t seem to be coming back on within a few hours I will contact the parents and advise them to find a sitter for the day. If the power goes out while children are at my home and doesn’t seem to be coming back on within a few hours I will contact the parents or emergency contact and have them pick up their child as soon as possible. I would not want children to come to my home if there wasn’t a way to cook breakfast or lunch for them. I will contact all parents as soon as my power is up and running.

I will do the following if there is a water failure at my home:

If there is a water failure at my home (before children come to my home) and doesn’t seem to be able to be fixed within a few hours I will contact the parents and advise them to find a sitter for the day. If there is water failure while children are at my home and doesn’t seem to be able to be fixed within a few hours I will contact the parents or emergency contact and let them know the situation. It will be their decision to pick up their child early or to pick them up at the scheduled time. I will contact all parents as soon as the issue has been resolved.
