Home Away From Home Childcare Sick Child Written Policy

We all know that kids tend to get sick, especially if you have older children at home. It’s part of life, but we don’t have to make it part of everyone’s life. :)

If your child has a fever, or contagious illness please keep them home. When a child is sick they need their parents and you will know the best ways to comfort them in such an unhappy time. We also don’t want them to spread their illness to the other children in my care (which includes an infant).

If a child becomes sick while in my care I will contact the parent immediately. If the child has a fever or is throwing up I will ask the parent to pick them up as soon as possible. While waiting for the parent to arrive I will separate the child from the other children into a safe, supervised location.

In the case that one of my children becomes sick with a contagious illness and/or fever I will contact the parents of the children in care immediately and ask them to pick their children up as soon as possible. If they become ill during the night or before children arrive I will contact the parents of the children I care for as soon as possible to let them know the situation. If a parent is unable to find a sitter on such short notice I will allow the child to come to my home and will make sure to keep the child separated from my own. If I become sick however, I will contact all parents as soon as possible and let them know I will not be able to care for their children on that day.

If your child is past the contagious part of a cold but still has a runny nose, cough, or other non contagious symptom they are fine to come to my home. I will do my best to make sure everyone is washing their hands as much as possible to help keep the other children from getting a cold as well.

If any child in care or any person in my home is ill with a communicable disease, or has a parasite (such as lice), I will notify the parents of every child in care. All parents will be notified the same day the illness or parasite is discovered.

MEDICINE:
If your child is in need of medication the medication form will need to be filled out before I can administer any medication.

I will not give a child any medication that does not have their name on the label.
